Happy Halloweekend

It's fall and the weekend before Samhain and Halloween. I've been remiss in keeping up with my blog so I thought this was the perfect weekend for it. With all the fall color that abounds in the Pacific Northwest, my mind has been revving up with inspiration lately and I thought I would take the time to jot down and capture a few things I love.

Writing inspiration comes in many forms. For me, there are three main things that play a part: art, nature, and friends. Making space in my life for thoughtful reflection, then journaling about and photographing my inspiration is a powerful spiritual practice. Below is a selection of photos from recent outings, either alone or with friends, that have inspired me regarding my current and future writings.

The outdoor images were shot at a public park in the Seattle area near twilight. Each vignette stirred something within me, whether it was the red fire of a maple tree, the rich emerald of copious sword ferns, ivy, and cedars, or the golden sunshine of a towering gingko. The photos of paintings are from the current Seattle Art Museum exhibit, Flesh & Blood: Italian Masterpieces from the Capodimonte Museum. The last painting is A Tango Against Time by Hollis Sigler, which the artist created to chronicle her battle with breast cancer.

After you've viewed the photos, let's go deeper.

  • For writer friends, what inspires or has inspired your writing?

  • For readers, what have books you've read inspired you to do?

I'd love to see and know if you care to share in the comments.
