People person, introvert, or mythobane?

MFS #1 is the nickname I have for my sister and it means, Most Favorite Sister #1. She's my only sister and I love her dearly, but that's not the point here. My sister sometimes accuses me of being a "people person", which is to say, NOT a people person. Have you ever had that moniker thrown your way?

When I'm around my writer peeps, I'm golden. Lots to talk about. Every. Single. Time. Occasionally, I'm forced to be, I mean, I find myself in non-writerly social situations. Most are fine. Some are trickier to navigate than others. Then there are some that get the better of me and that's when, as my talented friend Penny would say: my 15 minutes of charm runs out. The effort to make small talk is too much and I get irritated because I was taught to be polite and I can't easily walk away.

The more I delve into my career as a writer, the more introverted I become, especially when I'm working on a big project or a deadline. I'm happiest when I'm writing and who doesn't want to prolong the bliss of the muse? So when I'm in the zone, I don't often feel the need to spend much time chatting or going out. I know that doesn't always sit well with my friends, but most are creative types like me so they get it.

My sister, on the other hand, selectively chooses not to get it so I've given her the moniker, "mythobane", which defines as:

Noun a person with a strong or irresistible propensity for fantasizing, lying, or exaggerating.

'Nuff said ;-)

P.S. This blog post was inspired by fellow writer and creative badass, Justine Musk, who posted the above picture quote on Facebook today with the tagline: Introverts unite. Love her for that!
